Anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) are misused to a high extent in sports by athletes to improve their physical performance. Their use can have severe negative consequences: loss of muscle mass and performance; increase of cancer risk; reduction of bone density; increase of cholesterol and triglycerides; increase the risk of liver cancer; and increased cardiovascular risk.
